About External Relations:

The External Relations Department is responsible for generating fundraising revenue to support QIMR Berghofer’s research programs and protecting and strengthening the Institute’s reputation for research excellence.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

The Trusts and Foundations Officer works closely with the Trusts and Foundations Manager to secure significant and increasing funding from philanthropic trusts and foundations by:

  • writing compelling funding proposals
  • maintaining relationships with trusts and foundations
  • identifying new opportunities for trust and foundation funding to support the Institute’s life-saving research.
The Trusts and Foundations Officer reports to the Trusts and Foundations Manager and works cooperatively with other members of the Major Philanthropy team, wider External Relations Department and scientists across the Institute.

About you:

The Trust and Foundations Officer will play an important supporting role, and will incorporate initiative, superior communication skills and strong administrative abilities. You will require a working understanding of the principles of philanthropy and fundraising and an awareness of the Australian fundraising environment, philanthropy and its application to research institutes.

Excellent writing skills, particularly the ability to write compelling, persuasive grant applications and reports is essential, as is strong project management skills, including the ability to initiate projects, work independently and flexibly, and cooperatively with team members and meet project deadlines.

Demonstrated ability in identifying prospective trusts and foundations, establishing and nurturing relationships, prepare standard and bespoke submissions as per the requirements of the relevant trust and foundations is essential, as well as experience achieving and/or exceeding financial targets in a fundraising environment.

Salary range is $70,893 to $78,069 per annum. This is a full time, fixed term appointment for 2 years, with a possible extension.
