About the Immunology in Cancer and Infection Laboratory:

The Immunology in Cancer and Infection Laboratory aims to understand the fundamental workings of the host immune system in response to cancer and metastasis, and then modulate the immune system through therapeutic interventions. We are a large international laboratory of tumour immunologists and cancer biologists (>20 staff and students).

Role Purpose / Responsibilities :

Applications are invited for a Research Officer to join the Immunology in Cancer and Infection Laboratory headed by Professor Mark Smyth. The following duties will apply:

  • To work as part of a research team to elucidate disease mechanisms with the goal of developing novel cancer immunotherapy.
  • To screen the lead immunotherapy molecules in various in vivo tumor models.
  • To perform immune cell isolation, characterization and monitoring of functional cellular responses using Flow cytometry and other standard immune assays.
  • To develop ideas independently, develop strategies to design and conduct experiments and analyze and interpret data.
  • Document all observations, experimental designs/protocols and experimental findings/interpretations in a timely manner.
  • Produce high impact publications in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at internal and external scientific meetings.

  • Hands-on experience working with various murine tumor models, including administering immunotherapeutic agents (i.v., i.p., s.c. injections and oral gavage), isolation and characterization of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (immunophenotypong by flow cytometry and IHC), cytokine measurements (CBA/ELISA) and functional assay development.
  • Ideally have some training in molecular biology, genome (CRISPR/Cas9) editing.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as cultivate collaborative working relationships with other scientists or team members.
  • Solid track record of independent experience in animal research, immunology or immuno-Oncology. Accomplishments as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
