About QIMR Berghofer:

QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of cancer, infectious diseases, mental health and complex disorders. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and support staff.

About the team:

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research Program, provide support and leadership to research involving Indigenous Australians. The program supports researchers explore the capacity for their work to benefit the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The program is principally responsible for coordination of a suite of workforce development, research, communication and governance strategies. Consultation and engagement with stakeholders and regional champions, forms a large part of program work.

Role Purposes / Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research, you will be responsible for organising and coordinating:

  • Regional Queensland High School Lecture Series;
  • Regional Queensland Health Service and Research Sector Consultations;
  • NAIDOC Week Celebrations;
  • Indigenous Health Public Forums; and
  • Targeted Community and Service Sector Consultations.

About You:

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will possess highly developed project management skills; specifically as they relate to the proposal, planning, implementation, evaluation and delivery of quality, time limited projects.

Experience working with the Indigenous community, health service and research sector of Queensland and in a collaborative manner are essential to this role.

Knowledge and an appreciation of the body of evidence with respect to youth engagement in relation to Education Queensland and the STEM initiative are desirable.

This role requires an ability to work autonomously to deliver outputs on time and to an agreed standard.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate through their work history and references, an ability to work in a supportive manner as part of a small team who respect and appreciate diversity, individuality and integrity and who share responsibility for program success.

Salary is $74,663 per annum full time equivalent ($29,865 per annum for this 0.4 FTE appointment) plus superannuation and salary packaging. This is a part time appointment for 9 months.
