About the team:

The Lung Bacterial Group is part of the Genetics and Computational Biology Department at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. Our focus is on bacterial infections in cystic fibrosis. The Lung Bacteria Group has strong links with TPCH, LCCH and QUT Aerosol Research Groups.

Role Purposes / Responsibilities:

This position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to research projects in the Lung Bacterial Group aimed at investigating bacterial pathogenesis of cystic fibrosis pathogens. The successful applicant will provide scientific support for a number of studies in particular those focusing on the strain typing, prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of bacterial pathogens, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Skills in the area of bacterial identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, DNA extraction, conventional and real-time PCR are highly desired. The research assistant will also assist in day to day activities such as quality assurance, ordering and the management of clinical databases and isolate biobanks.

About You:

Applicants should possess a BSc in microbiology, molecular biology or a related discipline. Applicants should possess a broad scientific and technical knowledge of bacteriology including bacterial identification (Biochemical bench tests, Maldi-TOF), molecular assays and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (CLSI, Etest, PCR). The applicant should be proactive and enthusiastic with an ability to work corroboratively with team colleagues.

Salary range is $60,712- $ 67,589 p.a. plus super and attractive salary packaging. This will be a full time 12 month appointment.
